Leon S. Dorr

Leon S. Dorr, 99, husband of the late Evelyn R. (Sweeney) Dorr, died on Sunday morning, March 8, 2020, at his home iin Ipswhich, Massachusettes.

Born in Haverhill on February 10, 1921, he was the son of the late Charles and Lydia (Davis) Dorr.

Mr. Dorr and his wife raised their family of three children in Ipswich, MA.

On Thu 7/29/2010 3:21 PM, we here at the NBAers Platground received this introductorty note from Leon:

"I'm a USNRer. Back to 1933-1934...Then legally in Oct 1940. Beleive I started out as RM3C. Birthdate 02-10-1921....Ran with older guys. So I went with them to V3 meeting in Salem,MA....Lied about my age in 1937 enlistment. So you can see I am putshing 90. Hi!! They were glad to get anyone interested in Communications and Electronics in those days. Arrived in Panama mid 1941 Left in 1945...39 month stay. Almost a Zonian. HI!! Put another 5 years in inactive duty. Taking cruises each year. Sometimes for a month or so. Worked for Uncle all my working days. Have been retired about 34 years. I'm an OPMer. ... Cameras were not allowed after Dec 7,1941. ... My job there was Neutrality Enforcement. Boarded ships leaving and entering the Panama side. Everyone even the USoA ones...British, Australian etc etc. Snooping Job. Hi!(again) I go on and on. All my records of my active duty enlistment have been lost or misplaced. The 15th Naval District sent them to Washington where they transferred them and lost or misplaced them. I have found My name on the AF43 US Gordonia. ..What a thrill. Went out to China Sea to provision Mine Sweepers that anever got used. The BOMB settled that. Had my time in so got out. Went to work for Uncle in Electronic Research. A system person of the dark dark days. Have been on the Internet since it started. 1970's. or so. It's in color now. Hi!! 73 de Link P.S. I live in Ipswich, MA.... AR"
